July 8th was a beautiful summer day for the annual Party by the Pond in Mount Dennis. The STOP group attended the event for a second year to raise awareness about the Metrolinx plan to clear cut 1,485 trees north of Eglinton Avenue West for the proposed elevated section of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) LRT line.
Trees slated for removal prior to April 1st are still standing because of the efforts of our Indigenous-led coalition but Metrolinx has indicated that they could start clear cutting trees in our parks this fall.
People of all ages from across the city visit these parks every day. And the parks will be used even more with tens of thousands more people slated to move into the many upcoming condo developments in the neighbourhood. Many were out at the party to fish, listen to music, enjoy food and celebrate nature in this beautiful urban oasis.
